Sammamish Beach Club

Board Meeting (4-18-23)

The meeting was called to order by President, Perry England.  6 members present: John Raffetto, Michael Hensel, Merrilee George, Cathy Relyea and Orien Kuang.

Merrilee presented the financial statement and gave details.  A copy of the checkbook was included, as well as a report of Roger & Elaine’s work.

The patio replacement was discussed, with the suggestion that we get bids from at least 3 businesses (Michael, John & Perry offered to get them).  Demolition and removal of debris would be the biggest expense, with a hard surface (tiles, pavers or concrete) and a retaining wall on the north side included in the project.  Slab Jack had been brought in, but the situation of the need for a retaining wall at the north side prohibits them from just “lifting” the existing patio.

A fundraising campaign to raise enough money through a special assessment for capital improvements for patio safety would be presented to the membership in September including quotes, pictures and maps.  Proposed was: Pay $500 over 3 years or pay $450 in one lump sum.  One option considered was “if you plan to sell your house in the near future, you can sign a contract to not pay the high amount now and pay it when you sell”.  Another was giving a senior discount to members over 65 on a fixed income.  A plan will definitely be in place by a September presentation.

It was voted unanimously to set this year’s dues at $150.

Items Accomplished:

  • Swim platform & anchor repaired and updated – thanks to John.
  • Purchased life vests for various ages and sizes
  • Trees & bushes trimmed or cut down, along with cooperation with the neighbors
  • Gate batteries replaced

Discussion Items:

  • Paddle room lockers – It was decided that there is not enough room and it should be encouraged that members buy their own portable security case with a combination lock for $19.99 at Amazon, which includes a cable that could be attached to the boat storage for security while boating.
  • Bamboo removal will be dealt with during the removal of the existing patio.
  •  The possibility of an attorney for collection of delinquent properties especially when family members take over without a sale – John will provide the name and info for one.

Items to be accomplished:

·        Get someone to do the weekly cleaning of the Beach Club, pathway & bathroom

·         Get someone to do daily security. Orien said her boys could do the security checks

·         Get someone to do improvements and maintenance            Someone will have to be hired or ask membership for volunteers

·         New kayak?  New paddleboards (lighter versions)?        John & Orien will look for 2 paddleboards, 2 kayaks and 1 paddle boat      Orien will advertise the old ones

·         Computer system update for gate lock & bathhouse lock      John will contact Vibhor to provide a spare one

The Annual Meeting will be May 16, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Beach Club or at Perry’s if it’s raining

The Annual Barbecue will be July 16, 2023 at 4:00 pm

Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting, and Merrilee announced her retirement after 29 years.  She presented a list of duties that a secretary and a treasurer have to do.  She also presented a list of board member duties or the need for hiring someone including: Security, Handyman, Cleaning, watering & supplies, Garbage detail, Gate logs and codes maintained, Neighborhood liaison and Watercraft maintenance.  Members will be asked to volunteer for these jobs or they will have to be contracted out.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Merrilee George

Secretary/Treasurer
