Sammamish Beach Club

Board Meeting (9/19/10)

The meeting was called to order by President, Perry England. Those also in attendance were: Van Lanning, Herve LeBrec, Tom Horton, Cathy Relyea, John Raffetto and Merrilee George.

John will have a sign made regarding boat use, respecting neighbors’ property, closing time, codes checked daily. This will be posted prominently on the bath house.

Van demonstrated the new Netbook features to store and change the access codes or to pull the access logs and send out reports to the Board. It was mentioned that the timely inspection of the access logs has helped immensely. Merrilee said it is very important because she can call/email the parents immediately to question the actions of accessed individuals and any problems that have arisen.

The nighttime activities issue was discussed with the “dusk” issue needing to be defined. It was suggested that we set the key code access to automatically lock at 11:00 or 12:00 with emergency/administrative access only, but it was decided that it would not be a good idea to lock people in. A sweep of the Beach Club will be made by board members or a designated person at 10:00 pm each night to ensure that everyone has left and all is in order. At that time, a timer may be set to lock the gate for the night. It was agreed to email actual users at the beginning of summer to remind them of the rules and regulations for beach use. Merrilee will send these out.

Tom gave a vessel report. Vasa Park called to let him know that our canoe and kayaks, along with two other kayaks had been left at the park. Tom towed our canoe and kayaks back to the Beach Club and secured all of our vessels with a cable and chain to prevent further thefts. They will be chained together for the winter and set up individually with cables and keys next summer. Tom and Merrilee have keys and there are two located in the bath house. The King County Marine Patrol will be contacted to inform them that we have one extra kayak that can be claimed by the owner any time. All of these vessel returns may have been as a result of a letter from John to the parents of the boy suspected of stealing them.

The swimming platform will be pulled up next weekend and secured for the winter. A discussion was held regarding the best way to anchor the platform and set buoys that will be used to define our swimming area. Van & John will look into the supplies needed for the project and get together with Perry, Tom & Herve with Van’s boat to attach lines and buoys and pull up the platform next weekend.

It is obvious that non-members have been climbing our fence to gain access to the Beach Club. Merrilee will contact All City Fence to get advice and a quote on barbed wire installation on our fence by the neighbor’s garage roof, and she will contact the owner of the house next door to inform them of our intentions.

A security camera was discussed for more security with several possibilities of types including tapping into an internet connection or posting cameras with a light and a motion sensor. Further discussion will be held at the next meeting.

Herve asked if we intended to repaint the building after the graffiti was covered. That will be done next spring with a matching color from Benjamin Moore.

Herve will check with the tree company for the projected timeline of tree trimming.

It was reported that the shed door was damaged by vandals, and it was decided that we would ask if anyone is interested in taking it for free. The lawn mower will be offered also, so that we can clear out the shed and make the picnic table area more accessible. The supplies from inside will be stored securely in the bath house.

Merrilee will check with Roger Childs about handrails being installed for the upper steps leading to the tunnel and the newly installed lower steps.

Items to be reviewed and discussed at our next meeting will be:

Playground equipment cleaned or made more functional – providing an adult/child area

  • Lowering the dues to $100
  • Landscaping in front of the fence
  • Painting the deck rails
  • Improving the steps to the grass area
  • Replacing the bulkhead to the sandy area
  • Improving the fence to the north
  • Replacing the barbecue

It was suggested that an end-of-the-year survey be sent to members asking for input on their use, improvements suggested and general comments. Merrilee will send this out and report the results.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Merrilee George
Secretary/Treasurer
